Suddenly they find themselves in a struggle to survive when three mysterious strangers arrive at their door. But when morning comes, who will be left standing? (I think I suck at summaries...)
A/N- Okay, so this is my first fic, so it probably isn’t the best. It’s a movie inspired fic. I was just sitting there watching the movie and it all just came to me. So it’s probably a really sucky fic and the topic is gonna be totally weird and boring. But anyways, it’s my first so go easy and I would love everyone's advice on how to make this better. Hopefully I don't bore y'all!! Okay, here we go!!!!!
---START---
The door to Cook’s room slammed shut. Cook turned and ran to the window and looked out. Someone emerged from the cover of trees and made their way towards the house. Cook swore and yanked the curtains closed. He ran back to the door and turned the lock. A shaky hand ran through his styled hair, messing it up.
He was reminded that he wasn’t alone in the dimly light room when he heard a small whimper followed by a sob from behind him. He turned to find David curled up in a ball on the bed, with his head between his knees, rocking back and forth. Cook quickly made his way to the bed and sat next David.
David, when he felt the bed dip in next to him, lifted his head up and looked at Cook through watery eyes. “W-w-why…What’s g-g-going on?” He let out another sob and dropped his head back to its position between his legs. Cook reached out and wrapped his arm around his shoulders. He couldn’t think of anything to say, so he just sat quietly and tried to bring some comfort to the boy who secretly held his heart.
Five minutes or so passed before David finally calmed down. He looked back up at Cook, his eyes puffy from crying, and said, “Thanks Cook.” Cook just smiled and pulled his arm back and rested it in his lap.
“Listen Arch.” He paused, gathering his thoughts. “I… I need to get my phone from the car.”
“W-what? No! You can’t go outside, those people are out there! A-a-and you could get hurt. No, it’s too dangerous! I won’t let you go!” David said stubbornly.
“Then what do you suppose we do? Just sit here and wait until they come up here? We have to get a hold of somebody and get help. In case you didn’t notice, but that was blood on my walls. This has obviously gone past a prank. This is real, it’s not some game. We have to call the police or something or else we are going to die!”
David’s eyes started to water up again at the last thing Cook said. The room fell into silence. Cook looked away and muttered, “Damn.” He ran his shaky hand through his hair again, furthering his bed head rocker look.
The tears in David’s eyes spilled over again as he spoke. “T-the land l-line.” David croaked out.
Cook looked back at David with guilt in his eyes. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I shouldn’t have acted like that. I’m just…” He hesitated. “This is so…so crazy. So messed up.”
David smiled through the tears. “I-its fine.”
Cook smiled back, and then stood up. David stood with him and followed as they made their way to the door. Cook came to a halt when he reached the door, and turned to look at David. “Listen, I want you to stay here. If you lock the door behind me, then you’ll be safe up here. I’ll just go out to my--“
“Uh, no. If your gonna risk your life and go out there, then I’m coming with you.”
“But Arch--“
David stopped Cook by pushing by him and un-locking the door, thus pulling it open. He made to walk out, but changed his mind and said, “After you.”
Cook chuckled, in spite of all that’s happened, and slowly made his way out the door. He stuck his head out and peered down the hallway. It was empty. He inched out into the hallway, with David pressed up against his back. When he reached the stairs, he peered down. It was pitch black, he couldn’t see a thing. “There’s a light switch at the bottom of the stairs.” He announced as they made their slow descent.
When they reached the bottom, Cook rubbed his hand against the wall, feeling for the light switch. After a few moments he found it and flipped it on. To his relief, the lights all turned on, blinding them with their brightness. It took them a few moments for their eyes to adjust to the new light.
They looked around. It was just the way they had left it when they ran upstairs. Besides from the obvious blood covering the wall, which now had dripped down and was staining the couch, the room looked pretty normal.
After a few moments, Cook was the first to move. He trudged over to the kitchen door. It took David a few moments to realize that the scene was changing, and he had to jog to catch up to him before he disappeared through the door. When he walked through, Cook made his way to the drawer next to the sink. David looked over at the land line, and finally understood, when he saw the cut cord.
Cook opened the drawer, drawing David’s attention back, and pulled out two large knives. David gasped at the sight of them. But when Cook turned and held one out to him, he looked at it like it was some foreign object.
“I-I’m not--“
“Just take it for protection.”
David looked up at Cook as if to see if he was serious. And when he saw he was, he reached out hesitantly and grabbed the very end of the handle, holding as far away from him as possible. He looked up at Cook who was shutting the drawer. Just then the side door in the kitchen creaked open, causing the hinges to creak loudly. They both whirled around, knives in hand, to face the sound.
***
“Ahhhhhh!!!!!” a high-pitched scream filled the night air.
“Run! Run!”
A water balloon flew through the air and hit Kristy in the back, soaking through her thin tank top completely. “Michael!!!” The second she stopped moving, three water balloons from all different directions, slammed in to her, completely soaking her from head to toe.
“Crap, mate, we’re screwed! Run!” Michael shouted to Chikezie, who dropped his last water balloon and they both made a beeline for the door.
Carly, who was currently sitting on top of Jason in triumph, let out a bark of laughter as she watched Michael and Chikezie being chased around the yard by Kristy, who was waving her arms in the air like a mad woman.
Syesha, who was tossing Jason’s water balloon up and down, looked up when the front door opened and Stacy walked out. “Mikey!” She screamed when she saw Kristy, soaking wet from head to toe. Kristy stopped chasing them and turned to Stacy, who was motioning for her to come with her. “Come on, let’s get you dried off.”
Kristy smiled and said, “That would be great, thank you.” She turned to Syesha. “Sy! Here!” Syesha tossed her Jason’s water balloon, who caught it and spun on her heel and threw it right at Michael, hitting him square in the chest. The plastic exploded upon impact and covered Mike’s chest in the ice cold liquid that was inside.
Michael let out a yelp and fell on his butt. Kristy gave a grin of victory, before turning and walking away with Stacy, who had a similar grin on her face. “Nice shot.” Stacy said as she shut the door behind her.
“Um, ow? Mind getting off me please?” Jason squeaked out from under Carly. Carly laughed and looked at Syesha.
“Water balloon please?” She asked with an evil grin spreading across her face.
“Of course.” She handed her a fat balloon, twice as big as the others.
“Wait! Wait…Carly, let’s talk this though. C’mon, please?” Carly just smiled down at him as she raised her hand and slammed the balloon unto the back of his neck, completely soaking him.
Carly got up and dusted herself off before turning to Syesha and saying, “Well, I think our work here is done.”
The front door opened again, this time revealing Brooke, who was holding a cell phone in her hand. She strode over to where Michael and Chikezie were standing. Carly and Syesha followed close behind.
“Nice.” She said, taking in Michaels soaked appearance. “Here. Your phone rang while you were, uh, water ballooning. I think it was from Archie.”
Michael reached out and took his phone from Brooke. “Thanks Brooke. Wonder what Archie’s calling me for. Him and Cook were suppost to be here, what, an hour ago?” he looked at Carly, who nodded.
“Maybe they aren’t coming.” Carly pouted, her victory grin faltering.
“Aww! Archie’s gonna be here!” Brooke said.
“I haven’t seen him since his party!” Syesha chimed in.
Michael put the phone to his ear, who was listening to the message.
Jason suddenly jogged up, still soaking wet, and said, “What? Archie’s coming?”
“Yeah, haven’t seen the little man in months. Dave’s coming too.” Chikezie answered.
Michael let out a little gasp when the message ended. They all looked at him. “It’s…Dave. He sounded…freaked out.”
“Wait, it was Dave? Well, what’d he say?” Carly asked
“He said ‘call me back, it’s an emergency’”
“Well, call him back.”
Michael dialed the familiar number and put the phone to his ear. It went straight to voice mail. “The phone’s dead”
“I wonder if everything’s okay.” Brooke said
“I’ve never heard Dave like that before.”
“Mike, let’s run over to his house real quick. You said they were over there, right?” Carly piped in.
“Yeah. Okay, hop in the car. Let’s go.”
The side door slammed shut and the lock turned. Cook looked out the glass. The yard was dark and as far as he could see, empty. The only light was the dim light coming from the kitchen. He was about to look away when a shadow moved across the lawn, towards the side of the house. He gasped and quickly jumped away from the door.
“Wh-what is it?” David asked.
“They’re out there.” He paused, and looked up at David. “We need to get my phone.”
David gulped and clutched the knife tighter, though didn’t bring it any closer to his body. Cook trudged over to the counter. He abruptly stopped.
“Cook?”
He cursed and ran to the drawer under the microwave. He wrenched it open and fumbled through a few objects that David couldn’t see. He heard the clinking noises that they made and tip-toed to where Cook was. Right as he was about to peer over Cook’s shoulder, Cook abruptly slammed the drawer shut and grabbed his knife.
“Cook! Wh-what is it?”
“The car keys!” he exclaimed as he rushed to the kitchen door. David followed with a confused expression on his face. When Cook reached the front door, David realized what he meant. He ran to the window next to the door and looked out. The car was gone.
“Dang it!” David murmured as Cook yanked the door open and ran outside. David stopped on the doorstep and watched as Cook shouted a few curse words into the night air from the driveway. Both of them were completely unaware that the bathroom door right behind David had slowly opened.
After a few moments, Cook decided he better get back in the house. He turned around and raised his head to see where David was. But nothing could have prepared him for what he saw next. His heart stopped in his chest when he saw a tall, muscular man standing behind David. David was tiny compared to the large, strapping man, who was wearing an old, ratty looking suit, and a white bag over his head with holes cut out for his eyes and a smile drawn on where the man’s mouth would be.
“David!!!” he shouted and broke into a run to get to him.
The man behind David leaped forward, capturing David in a vice-like grip around his neck, his other hand grabbing the knife from him.
“Hmpph!” David croaked out from under the man’s grasp. The man yanked David back into the house and threw him on the floor with a loud thump. No one was there to catch him this time before his head hit the floor. Hard. The man turned and slammed the door closed, right as Cook reached it.
Cook pounded on the closed door with his fists, shouting, “David!!!” But it was to no avail, seeing as how the door had been locked. He heard a yelp from inside, followed by a loud thump right on the door.
Cook ran to the garage door and flipped open the security code key pad. He quickly punched in the code and hit enter. It flashed ‘invalid code.’ He swore and shut it, only to quickly flip it open again. He typed in the code, this time a bit slower, and hit enter. This time the garage door slowly came to life, raising up to reveal an empty garage. Cook dashed for the door, slamming it open and running inside. Once inside the kitchen, he ran towards the door that led to the entry way.
The first thing he saw made his stomach do back flips, and he had to look away to avoid vomiting. Blood coated the floor and the part of the lower wall. A trail of it lead into the living room. For the first time that night, tears fell from his eyes and down his cheeks. He wiped the tears from his eyes and trudged through the mess of blood on the ground. He followed the trail of it into the living room.
He gasped at the sight. The chair closest to him was overturned, with blood covering the back. The trail went on towards the door into the hall. The lamp was smashed into the ground, the shade shattered into tiny pieces. More tears fell from his eyes as he pushed open the door into the hallway.
He gasped when the trail abruptly ended in the center of the room. He swore and pushed open the door to the study. He looked around the small room and found it empty. He turned and left the room, unaware of the young girl that was at the door earlier emerge from behind the bookcase, wearing a doll mask.
Cook ran up the stairs and ran into the first room he came to. It was his parents room when they stayed with him. He looked around, but found everything in its place. He ran to the closet, but found that empty as well, aside from a few jackets. He ran back to the bed and looked under. Nothing.
He swore and ran back into the hallway. He continued on to all the other rooms, repeating the same process of checking the closet and under the bed. After checking all the rooms, except the one at the end of the hall, which was his bedroom, he came up empty in his search for David. Finally he reached the end of the hall. He took a deep breath, clutching his knife to his side, and reached out for the door knob.

Rating- PG-13 on this chapter, for some blood and scary-ish situations. R overall, I think.

Suddenly they find themselves in a struggle to survive when three mysterious strangers arrive at their door. But when morning comes, who will be left standing? (I think I suck at summaries...)
A/N- Wow. I typed this in like 30 minutes! It all just flowed! Okay, this one has a little bit of blood towards the end, and some (funny, probably) Archie screaming. Well, i still can't get the cut to work, even with nightingale's help... I'm beginning to think it does not like me :,( So until I figure it out, I'll just give a link.
-START-
At last they pulled into Cook’s driveway and pulled to a stop. “I’m gonna run inside real quick and just change out of my jeans. Do you want to stay in the car?”
“I guess I should have known the answer to that one,” he said as he opened the front door and stepped inside, closing it behind David. “Make yourself at home. I’ll be in my bedroom if you need anything” David nodded and Cook turned and left the room.
David looked around the nice, cozy looking living room. His eyes fell upon the mantle above the fireplace. He kicked off his shoes and walked over to look at the rows of pictures sitting atop the mantle. The first picture was a family photo that looked to of been taken quite recently. Cook sat in the middle of his parents and siblings, all wearing the exact same bright smile. He smiled and moved on to the second picture.
This one was a picture of his parents at their wedding. They looked so happy, David thought. The third picture was of Cook and his brother, Andrew. Cook had his little brother in a head-lock, while Andrew was thrashing his arms about trying to get out of his older, stronger brothers hold. David giggled at this one. He was about to look at the fourth one when a loud bang reverberated through the house, coming from the kitchen, which was the opposite direction in which Cook went.
David backed away from the mantle and edged towards the hall in which Cook had gone down. “Hey, Cook? Cook, is that you?” He called.
No answer.
He turned back towards the kitchen door. Just then, another bang, this time much louder, sounded from the kitchen, causing David to jump. “Coooook!!!” David yelled a bit louder.
Still no answer.
He was about to call again when something caught his eye. He looked over at the window just in time to see a body disappear into the small cover of trees. It had been quick, but there was no mistaking what he saw. He all but screamed this time, “COOOOOOOOOK!!!” and made a mad dash to the hall to go find Cook.
As he reached the door into the hall, he threw it open, only to slam into what he thought at first was a brick wall. He stumbled back and lost his balance, but strong arms reached out and caught him before he could fall, again.
“Arch? I heard you screaming? What the heck is going on?” Cook said with worry and confusion on his face.
“OhmygoshCookIheardaloudbangfromthekitch
“Whoa, whoa! Slow down, I can’t understand a word you’re saying”
David took a deep breath and pointed to the kitchen, “I was looking at your pictures on the mantle when I heard a loud bang from the kitchen. I called for you, but you didn’t hear me or whatever. And then I heard it again and it was a lot louder, and I started to get freaked out, but you still couldn’t hear me. And I was about to come get you when I saw someone in your backyard and they ran back into the trees.” David took another deep breath and looked at Cook.
“What? You saw someone in my backyard?” When David nodded, Cook turned and pushed open the door to the living room, with David right behind him, and made his way toward the window. He pulled back the blinds and peered out.
“D-do you s-see anything?” David asked from his position right behind Cook.
“Oh my god!”
“W-w-what? Cook?”
Cook turned around and looked at David with a strange look on his face. His eyes widened as he spoke to David. “David.”
“Cook! W-what is it?”
“I…I forgot to turn on my sprinklers!” Cook broke out laughing. “Dude! You should see the look on your face!” Cook managed in between laughs. “That movie really has you spooked. You are actually seeing things now.”
David’s expression turned from one of fear to one of annoyance. “Cook, stop! I know what I--. Cook! Stop laughing!” Cook laughed even harder seeing David flailing his arms about like a child. “I’m serious! Listen to me! Dang it, Cook, stop laughing.”
“A-Arch! Dude!”Cook managed out as he erupted with more laughter.
“Hmph!” David turned around and grabbed his coat from the chair and walked towards the door.
“Wait, Arch, where’re you going?” Cook’s laughter finally managed to calm down.
“Back to the hotel. Take me home now!” David said without turning to look at Cook.
“Hold on, Arch, I was kidding! I didn’t mean to offend you or anything.” But David just opened the door and turned to leave. He didn’t get very far though because the second he turned to walk out, he nearly fell backwards in shock. Standing on the porch was a young woman, who looked to be about David’s age, staring right at him.
“Is… Jenny there?” the girl asked in a daunting tone.
“U-u-u-ummm…” David turned to look at Cook, who was instantly by his side. David decided to retake his position right behind Cook.
“Uh, I think you have the wrong house.” Cook said, looking at his watch. It was exactly midnight.
The girl just stood there, staring between Cook and David, who had his head peeking out from behind Cook. When she made eye contact with him, he quickly hid his head again. Cook reached for the switch for the porch light. When his fingers made contact with the minute, slender switch, he flipped it up, but the ensuing darkness remained, completely concealing most of the girls face.
After several moments of silence, the girl finally spoke up again, “You sure?”
Cook looked back at David with a strange look on his face. “Yeah. There’s no Jenny here.”
The girl looked at Cook for several more seconds before abruptly turning and walking down the steps and through the yard. She turned and walked down the middle of the street.
Cook shut the door and turned to David and said, “What was that all about? Maybe I should go after her, I don’t think a young girl like her should be walking around outside by herself at midnight.”
“Um, no, don’t go. She’ll be fine.” David walked over to the window when Cook chuckled. He peered out the window, and gasped. “Gosh! Cook, come here.”
Cook walked over to the window and looked out. When he saw what David was talking about, he gasped himself. “What is she doing?” Cook said. Outside, standing in the middle of the street, staring at the house, was the girl that was just at the door. She stood stock-still, gazing chillingly at the house. “Okay, I’m going to go talk to her.”
“What? No, you can’t.”
“Arch, people don’t just stand in the middle of the road like that, and she probably needs to get home. Just wait right here.” Cook walked back to the door and turned the lock.
“Cook wait!” Cook opened the door and started to walk outside, but suddenly stopped on the door frame.
“Cook?” David looked over the older man’s shoulder. There was no one in the middle of the street. Cook stepped out onto the porch and looked up and down the street. It was completely empty. Somewhere In the distance, a dark howled shrilly, adding a daunting air to the situation. He turned back and ambled into the house, shutting the door behind him.
“What’s going on Cook?”
“She must have gone home, I guess.”
David didn’t look convinced. He was about to argue, when suddenly a loud bang resounded from the kitchen, causing David to jump. Cook looked at David with a questioning look on his face, before he turned toward the kitchen door. David followed in his usual position.
Cook slowly pushed the door open and inched inside. The first thing he saw was the side door that leads out back. The glass on the door was cracked in several places. His eyes grew wide, and he hurriedly reached into his pocket for his phone, but came up empty. “Crap! I left my phone in the car. Arch, give me yours.” David reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone and handed it to Cook.
Cook took it and dialed a familiar number. When he finished, he put the phone to his ear and waited as the dial tone came up.
“Hey!”
“Mike! Good you answered. Listen--“
“It’s Mike. I can’t answer the phone right now, so leave me a message after the beep.” Mike’s answering machine told him.
“Damn it! Hey Mike, I’m using David’s phone, call me back as soon as you get this. It’s an emergency.” He hung up the phone and prepared to dial another number, when a message came up on the phone saying ‘battery low. Place on charger.’ And then the phone went black.
“Damn! Your phone’s dead.” He handed the phone back to David. “Do you have the charger?”
“Um, N-no. It’s at the hotel.”
“Here, I’ll just use the land line.” Cook said and he went over to the counter and picked it up off the hook. He put it up to his ear and dialed a number. But there was no dial tone. He hung up and tried again. Still no tone.
He grasped the cord to see if it had come undone. He looked down at the cord in his hand, and his mouth fell open.
The cord was cut.
“What’s the matter Cook?” David asked with evident apprehension in his voice.
Cook quickly turned around when David tried to see around him, grabbing David and pulled him into a hug.
“C-c-cook? W-what--?”
“David,” and that scared David the most because he couldn’t remember the last time Cook had called him by his first name, “Let’s go upstairs.”
“W-w-why?”
Cook pulled David towards the kitchen door. He pushed the door open and nearly dropped David when he came face to face to what waited for them. On the opposite wall, written in big red letters, was the sentence, “You’re gonna die!” David screamed.
***
“Hey Carly! How you like the house?” Mike said as he grabbed a glass from the cabinet.
“Hey Mike, where’s the beers?” Carly said with a smile on her face as she turned to her friend, “Oh and I love the house! You and Stacy has good taste.”
“Thanks.” He said as he turned back to the counter and opened a cooler, “Here ya go.” He handed Carly a beer. “Right, so um, have you seen Dave around? He was suppost to be here like twenty minutes ago.”
Carly’s face lit up. “Dave’s coming? Oh, this’ll be great! I haven’t seen him since Archie’s birthday party back in December!”
“Yeah, Archie’s coming too. Apparently they were hanging out tonight and when I called Dave, they were on their way home. He said he would change clothes and be here in ten minutes. That was half an hour ago.”
“Archie’s coming too! I can’t wait to see him. I’m sure they’ll be here any time then.” She practically skipped to the door. “I’m gonna go wait for them.” She called as she pushed the door open and made her way back through the throng of bodies.
Right as the door shut behind her, the side door burst open and Jason and Chikezie walked in, with guilty looks on their faces. They were carrying a large plastic bag full of colorful balls.
“Hey Mike! Get over here and help us. Kristy and Sy are out front.” Jason said.
“We gonna get ‘em with these water balloons.” Chikezie said, and he and Jason broke out laughing. “Come on man.”
“Gimme some mate.” Mike said and grabbed some water balloons out of the bag, and then all three ran out the door.

---START---
“Nine-one-one, what’s your emergency?” An emotionless voice came over the phone, like they had been doing this all day.
“P-please! Hurry!”
“What’s going on? Do you need help? Are you in any danger?”
“Yes! Yes, there’s blood everywhere!”
“Sweetie, what’s your name?”
“I-I’m…B-Brooke...” Brooke spoke through a watery voice, agony ringing through the phone.
“Okay Brooke, where are you?”
I-I don’t know where we are. Help us!”
“Okay, calm down Brooke, tell me what’s going on.”
“Hold on! Don’t close your eyes sweetie. Stay with me!”
“Brooke? What’s happening?”
“They never came back, so we went in the house and there’s blood everywhere. On the walls and…Hurry! They’re hurt! They’re dying!”
“Brooke, who is dying? What happened?”
“Hurry! He isn’t breathing. He’s dying! He’s dying!”

“Behind you…Behind you…” one David Archuleta whispered to no one in particular.
It was all David Cook’s idea, and he wondered why he ever agreed to do it in the first place. David had a night off from working on his upcoming album, and had nothing to do. He was planning on going back to his hotel and relaxing, that is until he got a call from his good friend, David Cook.
*Flashback*
It was around seven thirty when he got the call.
“I’m coming! I’m coming!” David called to his phone, which was blaring the song “Light on”, his current ring tone. “Dang it. Where is it?” He picked up a shirt off the ground and found his phone underneath.
“Cook! Hi!” he answered.
“Hey Arch, what’s up?” David Cook replied.
“Um, nothing really, wha--“
“Great! Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to do something tonight?”” Cook cut David off. “Like go see a movie or something.”
“Oh…Um, well…Ok, what movie?”
“Cool! Well, what are you in the mood for? How about a comedy? No wait, a horror! Yeah, that sounds good. Hold on, I’ll check the theaters and call you back, ‘kay?”
“Um.” The line went dead. “Great.” Don’t get me wrong, David loved Cook like an older brother, but sometimes he drove him crazy. He decided it was just better to go along with him because Cook always had to get his way, and if he didn’t, well, that just never happens.
He got up of the bed he was sitting in and made his way to the bathroom, phone in hand, to get ready for his night with Cook.
David had finished brushing and flossing his teeth, washing his face, q-tipping his ears, and putting on deodorant before Cook finally called back.
“So I was thinking,” Cook started, before greeting David’s hello, “that we could go see ‘The Strangers’.”
“’The Strangers’? What’s that about?”
“Oh, you’ll see. So, I’ll pick you up around, um,
“Um…Cook? It’s already
“Oh, I’m already on my way over. The Gold Dolphin Hotel, right?”
Again, typical Cook. “Yeah, Alright, I’ll wait in the lobby.”
“Alright, see ya.” The line went dead again.
“…Bye…” David hung up his cell, sighed, and grabbed his coat and headed out the door.
*End Flash back*
Cook looked over at the boy sitting next to him in the near empty theater, who was rocking back in forth in his seat. Cook chuckled to himself and turned his attention back to the movie. The movie isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it was pretty lame in his opinion. And he was starting to lose feeling in his arm from where David had it in a death-grip.
At last, the movie was over and the few people who stayed through the host of David-screams were getting up to go. After receiving the last annoyed look from the leaving people, Cook said, “David, It’s over. Come on, they need to clean up, so we gotta go.”
David, who had his head buried behind Cook’s arm, slowly sat up and looked at Cook. “Gosh, sorry…Okay, um, let’s go.” They got up and headed for the door, David walking as close as possible to Cook’s back. Cook let out a chuckle and pulled David around him and said, “Remind me never to let you see a scary movie again. Ever.” David blushed at the feeling of Cook’s arm wrapped around him, pulling him close. They exited the theater and headed for the nearest egress.
Something caught Cook’s eye and he looked up from David to see a tall man walking towards them with a crazed look in his eye. Cook adjusted his sunglasses and hat so he wouldn’t be noticed. He listened to David talk about all the scariest parts of the movie, while never taking his eyes off the man who was moving towards them.
Unexpectedly, as the man reached them and made to pass them, he ran his shoulder right into David, knocking him to the ground. Cook reached out and caught him right before his head hit the cool tile floor. “What the hell?” Cook shouted as the man kept walking down the hall without stopping. He helped David sit up. “Jackass. Hey, are you okay Arch?”
“Y-yeah, fine. I…wind knocked out of me.”
Cook helped him up before he said, “Wait here, I’ll be right back.” David squeezed his eyes shut and nodded. Cook turned and ran after the man who had vanished out the doors at the end of the hall. He shoved the doors open and was instantly hit with a gust of cold air. He looked around the half empty parking lot, but saw no one. He looked up the side walk towards the front of the theater, but again came up empty in his search.
Another cold gust of wind hit him and he quickly turned around and went back to David who was leaning against the wall waiting. “What the hell was his problem?” He asked when he reached David.
“Maybe…Um, he didn’t realize he, uh, bumped into me?”
Cook looked at him for a minute with a look with ‘are you kidding me’ written all over it, before he broke out laughing. “Is it like, physically impossible for you to be upset with someone?” He managed out.
David blushed, “Whatever, come one lets go.” He grabbed a still laughing Cook and yanked him towards the door. More cold air hit them as they opened the door and made their way towards Cooks Hybrid he received from American Idol.
About halfway to the car, Cook suddenly stopped and pulled something out of his jacket pocket. David turned to look at him. “Oh, hey, let me go throw this trash away real quick. Here, take the keys and you can get in.” He handed David the keys.
“Um, right, okay.” Cook turned and jogged to the trash cans right inside the building. “Hurry back, please.” He called. He could have sworn he heard Cook laugh his signature laugh at him. David turned back towards the car, but stopped dead in his tracks, the keys falling from his hands and hitting the ground with a clank. Standing behind the hood of the car was a woman. From where David was standing, he could see that see wasn’t exactly the smallest girl he’s ever seen. Although her face was in the darkness, he could tell she was staring at him.
Several seconds went by, but the woman didn’t move, just stood there staring at him.
‘It’s nothing. The movie’s just getting to me.’ David thought, trying to shake off the fear that was creeping through him.
But she didn’t move, didn’t make to leave at all. He could see her silhouette of her head cock to the side, as if she was examining him or something. David quickly shut his eyes and did what he always did when he was scared. He thought of the first song that came to him and began to sing it in his head.
He heard footsteps coming closer to him, and he started to sing harder and faster in his head.
Suddenly, a hand grabbed his shoulder and shook him. He was about to scream for Cook when a familiar voice spoke. “Arch? Hey what’s the matter?” David opened his eyes and looked directly at the car. There was no one in sight, no one behind the hood staring at him. He turned to face Cook, who was bending down to pick up the abandoned car keys on the ground. “Dude,” he said when he saw David’s face, “You look like you’ve seen a ghost. What’s going on?”
David turned and gave the car one last glance before looking back to Cook who was eyeing him with worry. “u-u-mm…nothing, can…can we just go?” David stuttered out.
Cook didn’t look convinced, but decided to drop it. But he could tell something was wrong with his friend, so he casually threw his arm over David’s shoulders and lead the way to the car. “Dude, I’m serious about the whole never seeing a scary movie again. You are totally freaked out.”
The feeling that David felt in his stomach when Cook had his arm around him made him completely forget about the whole incident, the fear that had previously occupied him.
David mumbled something Cook couldn’t hear and walked over to the passenger’s side of the car. He took one more good look around before opening the door and getting in the car.
About half way back to David’s hotel, Cook’s phone rang, breaking the silence. Cook fished it out of his pocket and checked the caller id. It clearly read “MJ.”
“Oh great, this can’t be good.” Cook declared
David turned to Cook and gave him a weird look.
“It’s Mike.”
David let out a little giggle before Cook answered the phone. “Mike! Hey what’s up man?”
David listened to Cook’s side of the conversation, which consisted of a bunch of ‘uh-huhs’ and ‘yeahs’. Then Cook said “Yeah, I’m hanging out with Arch tonight, so is it okay if we drop by the party?” David translated that to mean “Is it appropriate for David?”
“Great. Alright, see ya in a few minutes man.” Cook hung up the phone and turned to look at David. “So Johns is having this party tonight at his and Stacy’s new, vast house and wants us to stop by. You wanna come with me? The whole gangs there, everyone flew in today and are here until tomorrow. C’mon, it’ll be fun!”
“That sounds, um, entertaining. I haven’t seen anyone from Idol besides you and Mike for a while now.”
“So you’re coming, right? You can’t leave me with Mike, or who knows what’ll happen.”
“Yeah, I’ll come. Someone has to be there to keep you two in line. And I’m not looking forward to going back to my big, scary suite all alone.”
Cook chuckled and said “Great, this’ll be perfect. So do you need anything from the hotel?”
“No, I’m good.”
“Okay, well do you mind if we run back to my house real quick? I kinda want to change out of these coke covered jeans.” Cook said with his signature smirk on his face.
“Oh my gosh, I’m sorry! You know that was an accident. It was scary and the Coke was right there and--“
“Hey, relax, I was just kidding Archie.” Cook laughed and glanced over at David, meeting his eyes. David blushed, but felt he couldn’t tear his eyes away from Cook’s beautiful face. David had realized that he had feelings for Cook long ago, back in Idol days. It was around Mariah Carey week, when David started getting these unidentifiable feelings in the pit of his stomach whenever Cook would walk into the room. He almost lost it whenever performance night came around and Cook took the stage. And it didn’t help the fact when Cook would always be so touchy-feely with him.
He would find himself having dreams about Cook, just seeing him in Cook’s arms, falling asleep together, holding hands. He never felt the same towards Cook again, in terms of friendship. But he couldn’t bring himself to tell his best friend that he had feelings toward him, because one, he was a guy and Cook was a guy, and that was just a no. And second, he didn’t know if Cook liked guys, and if he did, have feelings for little David Archuleta. He didn’t want to risk the friendship that they shared with something like that.
Cook blushed back after several moments when David didn’t look away. All Cook had to do was lean in a little and…
A strident honk caused Cook to swerve wheel, his eyes tearing away from David and back onto the road, barely dodging the large SUV that was inches away from ramming into them. David yelped as he was jerked sideways, slamming his eyes shut as the headlights shone bright in his eyes.
Once they were safely back on their side of the road, Cook let out a sharp gust of air and began to chuckle. David opened his eyes and blushed. “S-sorry.”
Cook smiled at David before turning his eyes back to the road, exhaling a deep breath.
